| An Open Letter to the Membership of Council
#7909:
My name is John Kimmi and I am the Grand Knight of your council.
Each year our council leads a number of activities for the church,
our school and community. Many of you offered your time this year
for some of our major events such as the Lenten Fish Fry, State
Convention, Old Settlers, Casino Night and others. In addition there
are dozens
of other projects that we commit to on behalf of the parish
and they are sincerely grateful.
When we became knights we took an oath to fulfill one of the central
missions of the order-- striving in charitable works. Sadly, as
a council, we can do a much better job of satisfying this obligation.
Did you know that over 50% of our membership has not offered their
time on any of our activities this year? And over 70% have contributed
to one event (shift) or less. With the New Year upon us I am asking
you to consider a recommitment to the good works of your council.
If each of our able bodied knights would commit to just 12 service
hours a year we would never have to say "No" to a parish
effort that needs our support. It's easy to come up with reasons
like "I'm too busy" or "No one called me". We've
all done this. But many times these reasons are really excuses.
Only you can answer that. We have a business meeting every third
Monday of the month, you can go to our website, www.kofc7909.org
, read the parish
bulletin and our newsletter
or call one of your brother knights to see what we are supporting.
Much of what we do is charitable and we have a great time executing
the events. The lifelong friendships that we build along the way
are an unexpected bonus. Many of the knights profess that their
involvement has been key in strengthening other personal relationships.
We have constructed a calendar below that details many of our annual
activities and events. Indicate on this chart where you can help
and return this with your 2005 membership dues. Assist us by including
your current telephone number. If your telephone number is unlisted
we commit that this will be used for council business only. There
are times when a voice conversation is necessary so please provide
a telephone number where you can be reached.
As I close I want you to ask yourself, "Why am I a knight"
and "Can I make a greater contribution through my council going
forward"? I believe most of us can. This council accomplished
a lot of great milestones in 2004. Our greatest accomplishment,
however, would be achieved if we, as a Council, renew our commitment
to service and charity. Remembering why we initially joined the
Knights might help with our recommitment. As a team we can offer
so much more. I hope to see or hear from you soon. (jmkimmi@sbcglobal.net
